Where are you from?

Born in Haiti (sak pase to all my Zoes 🇭🇹) but raised in Brooklyn, NY.

How old are you?

23 years old and born on January 15th- Capricorn & MLK’s (real) birthday… it’s giving marching in your own purpose.

Where did you graduate from and what did you major in ?

I graduated from New York University in 2020 (COVID-grad R.I.P) with a bachelors degree in Sociology with a minor in Media, Culture, and Communications. After graduating, I started working full time for Facebook on their legal and partnerships team and I’ve been there for over a year now.

When did you start traveling ?

I first started traveling internationally when I was 15. I went to boarding school for high school and in my junior year I spent a semester abroad in La Coruña, Spain. There I stayed with a host family that didn’t speak a lick of English. This challenged me to immerse myself in the culture because after a few awkward family dinners of exclusively responding “sí” to everything , I knew one thing for sure— if I was going to make it through my 4 months there a vow of silence wasn’t the way.

How did you manage to travel so much in college ?

When applying for college I prioritized schools that had a robust study abroad program because I knew I wanted to travel every chance I got. Luckily, NYU has a global campus that it prides itself on which made spending a semester in another country pretty easy without worrying about my credits or financial-aid transferring. During my time at NYU, I studied abroad in Ghana, Australia, and United Arab Emirates and while I was there I travel hacked my way to as many surrounding countries in those regions as I could. I’m talking $300 dollar flights to Bali. I turned my vacations into world tours because I was able to chop those flight prices in half.

How do you afford to travel?

I prioritize travel in my budget by setting aside $50-200 every other paycheck even when I do not have an upcoming trip in mind. This is so when the time comes for me to buy a flight or book accommodation, I at least have some buffer money to work with and I can book my travels without worrying how I’m going to pay for other expenses that month. Outside of that I’m always looking for affordable flights by tracking price changes. Whether I know when I want to travel or not, I still track prices so I can get a sense of trends. Trend watching is why you’ll see many blogs advising you to buy your flights at 3 a.m on a Tuesday—but who has time for that? Don’t worry sis, I’ll show you how I get those early bird prices on your schedule.
